Hidden companion, phantom, be still in my heart
Make me a promise that time won't erase us
That we were not lost from the start
Oh, I'd die to be where you are
I tried to be where you are

Tohru is a haughty youth who takes little things seriously as much as their pride. Despite their tough attitude, Tohru is highly intelligent and tactical, usually taking a calculated approach. It is entirely possible to ignore this aspect altogether as they are also rather temperamental, electing to blaze in without strategy if they feel the need. Tohru is a very gallant and chivalrous youth, seeking to uphold the dignity and honor of the women of the Hanamachi. Feminine wiles are not beyond them, either.

A child washed onto the Ruby Price one day without a single memory... except the sensation of cold water, bubbles, and darkness. Kindness did not smile upon the child, for the merchants noticed their lack of scales and horns - a child of mixed race. The child was sold to the Hingan Hanamachi for their exotic appearance, becoming a Kamuro to the most well established brothel of the Red Light district: Miura-ya. It was then the child was given a name - Tohru, for 'transparent.'
Tohru was assigned to wait upon the star oiran, Takao of Miura-ya. The two grew close as Takao mentored Tohru in the ways of the Hanamachi, and none could deny that Tohru truly loved and adored Takao as a sister. It was surmised that Tohru would succeed Takao as the star oiran of Miura-ya, and this was a fate that Tohru accepted and looked forward to.
A rude awakening to the glamor penned itself onto the page of Tohru's tale when Takao took her life in a double suicide with her lover, Kyoujirou Sasaki - grandson of the Hingan ambassador. Love was a taboo in the Hanamachi, and Takao's demise was only another buried away in the shadows of the red light district. This radicalized Tohru, especially more after learning that Kyoujirou had survived. Blinded by rage and grief, Tohru snuck out of the Hanamachi with nothing but a knife with the intent of killing every Sasaki man.
Tohru was caught red handed sneaking into the Sasaki manor by several shinobi. They were swiftly apprehended and brought to Kojiro Sasaki, the ambassador. Impressed by their dexterity, stealth, and utter fiery spite, Kojiro purchased Tohru from Miura-ya and adopted them. To rub salt into the wound, he forced Tohru into the Bujin-kai dojo under the shinobi division.
"Kill me whenever you wish," he dared Tohru mockingly.
Fueled by anger, sorrow, and loss, Tohru threw their energy into becoming the best shinobi of their generation, seeking to have their revenge on Kojiro and the men of the Hanamachi that perpetuated the culture that took Takao's life. They proved to be an excellent shinobi, still hovering for a chance to assassinate Kojiro. Eager and power hungry, Tohru sets their sights far beyond just the Sasaki head...

Conventional
Sasaki name The Sasaki clan is a wealthy family with ties to the royal court, tasked with maintaining relations with nations across the star. At its center is the ambassador, Kojiro. Tohru is his adopted grandchild.
The Hanamachi Kugane boasts a glamorous nightlife in the Hanamachi where courtesans in red ornate cages tempt the passerbys for a night of entertainment. Frequent visitors would recognize Tohru.
Masculine Aversion Tohru instinctively turns away from anything considered belonging to the world of men. After studying the habits of the Hanamachi patrons, Tohru is very wary and hostile to the masculine.
Unconventional
Bujin-kai Dojo Martial artists across Hingashi flock to the renowned dojo in the hope of learning from the masters. Those who were students of the kendo and shinobi divisions would recognize Tohru.
Takao of Miura-ya Once the star oiran, she lost her life in a desperate attempt to be with her lover... only for him to survive. Hanamachi visitors would recognize her name. Tohru still grieves her passing, unable to let go.
Desire for Power Despite being the top shinobi of their class, Tohru still lusts for power and turns to... seedy methods in order to gain it. Forbidden knowledge and magical pacts are par for the course.

Alistair
vampire sire
An antagonistic relationship, Alistair sired Tohru as his vampire spawn and mentored them during the newborn period. Despite Tohru's disdain for Alistair at times, they respect him as their sire.

Wisp
dalmascan knight
Despite being on guard around masculine individuals, Tohru seems to trust Wisp a great deal compared to others. Perhaps it is a sense of safety and respect, one that keeps their malcontent at ease. Perhaps even regarded as a friend.

Lulu
warlock patron
Their relationship started off rocky, but eventually grew to become something mutually beneficial. Though Tohru still has no idea what Lulu could want with them, they will never bite the hand that feeds them.
